Influence With Impact:

Proven Guidelines to Gain Others’ Commitment and Support

Collaboration enables organizations to accomplish goals and implement major change initiatives more quickly and with better quality than if each function operates as a separate “fiefdom.” The best way to meet internal and external customers’ needs is to improve the way in which people work together in a cross-functional environment. Success often depends on the ability to influence people to carry out requests, support proposals, and implement decisions. This session will cover high-impact strategies to influence and gain commitment from others effectively.

Objectives of presentation

  • Recognize the 11 proactive influence tactics used by effective managers
  • Use an understanding of key situational factors to determine which tactic(s) would be most effective
  • Learn the skills required to use the influence effectively to gain commitment to your plans and proposals
  • Develop an influence plan to gain support from the people whose commitment you need to achieve your objectives and business challenges

The session will be highly interactive and provide practical tools and techniques to enhance your ability to gain support for your ideas and initiatives. Participants will complete the Influence With Impact self-assessment to better understand which influence tactics they use most frequently. The 11 proactive influence tactics will be reviewed and the conditions that support and hinder the use of each tactic will be described. Case studies will provide an opportunity for participants to practice using the key concepts and models before applying them to an on-the-job situation. Participants will then analyze a current real-world situation and develop an influence plan to gain the support of people over whom they have no direct authority.
